Prior to GEFA, Hix served for more than four years in Georgia’s governor’s office, where he worked as director of external affairs and deputy press secretary for former Gov. Sonny Perdue. In his role as external affairs director, Hix managed the governor’s public events and served as a liaison between the governor's office and the private sector, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based groups. As deputy press secretary, he worked closely with national, state, and local media to communicate the governor's vision for Georgia.

Hix joined Gov. Perdue’s staff in January 2003 after working in Washington, D.C. as a communications specialist at the Republican National Committee and a presidential appointee at the U.S. Department of Justice during the administration of President George W. Bush.

Hix earned a bachelor's degree in management from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He is a native of Snellville, Georgia, and currently resides in the East Atlanta Village neighborhood of Atlanta.
