Through the Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority (GEFA) awarded $18,703,480 in grant funding to 204 communities throughout the state for lead service line inventory projects.

The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) allocated DWSRF funding to help water systems complete lead service line inventory projects and lead service line replacement projects. All water systems are required to submit a completed lead service line inventory to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) by October 16, 2024.

GEFA will receive an annual allocation from EPA for lead service line inventory and replacement projects through federal fiscal year 2026. Funding for this year totals $66.8 million with $18.7 million available as grants to disadvantaged communities. The balance of the funds must be awarded as loans with disadvantaged communities eligible for principal forgiveness.

BIL investment in the water sector includes $50 billion to the EPA to strengthen the nation’s drinking water and wastewater systems.
