Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority

Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority

The Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority (GEFA) administers a variety of programs and services to assist local governments, state agencies, and non-profits, in the areas of water and wastewater, solid waste, energy efficiency, recycling, and fuel storage tank removal. Our mission is to develop, market and finance progressive energy efficiency and environmental programs utilizing the latest technology and expanding programmatic focus for all Georgians.

We are organized into several divisions to accomplish our different tasks. In the area of Environmental Financing, GEFA has approved over $1.176 billion in water and sewer financing, loans to 921 projects. The average size loan is $1.2 million and interest rates vary from 0% to 3.98%. Any type of water infrastructure project is fundable including storm water, reservoir or combined sewer overflow projects.

Under our Energy Resources Division, we can provide assistance to low income and elderly persons to help make their home more energy efficient; thereby lowering utility bills. In addition, the Energy Division works with other state agencies, universities, and non-profits to promote energy efficiency and renewable energy in Georgia.

The Fuel Storage Tank Group operates a program to remove or upgrade state-owned tank and remediate the sites as appropriate.
