GEFA provides water and sewer loans to local governments and water and sewer authorities; replacement of leaking or substandard state-owned fuel storage tanks; grants to local governments to construct or improve solid waste recycling facilities; loans to build or improve local government operated solid waste facilities (landfills); grants to non-profit agencies and local governments who do the construction work to improve energy efficiency of the homes of low-income and elderly families; and programs to assist state government, local governments, and others to increase the number of alternative fuel vehicles (natural gas, propane and electric).

Communities We Serve

While the water and sewer programs is open to any local government in Georgia that is financially capable of repaying the loan, most of the loan recipients are smaller cities and counties. Through the Energy programs low-income people receive help through the Weatherization program. Also, local governments, non-profits and other state agencies receive monies to make Georgia more energy efficient.
